Theophilus London Serves up new Mixtape

Theophilus London Serves up new Mixtape

Mixtapes can be real hit and miss. Some have impeccable flow and great hooks. Some can’t seem to tell the difference between the ass and the elbow – so to say. They give me one of two feelings. It either makes me want to hear the full length (which usually disappoints me) or it makes me wish it was the full length. Today, I’ve experienced both feelings at once, with the hopes that the album doesn’t disappoint me even a little bit. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Theophilus London’s I Want You mixtape.

Produced by Va$htie, I truly believe this is a new era for mixtapes. Just today, I heard someone talk about Theophilus saying that it’s always great to hear a new track, because it almost always outdoes it’s predecessor. With a move as balsy as opening up with a Marvin Gaye cover (title track “I Want You”), he sure delivers. I Want You delivers in the one area that just about every mixtape fails in across the board: atmosphere. It’s an easy set to keep on repeat and when you close your eyes, you can almost see hipsters getting down to it, while still maintaining their hipper-than-thou swagger. Through this collection of cover songs, remixes and love-obsessed tracks, we see the true tint of Theophilus London’s musical stigma: darkness.
